While researching cancer based hypnosis scripts I came across the concept of binaural beats. Basically it is two different tones played simultaneously at different slightly different frequencies. The combination of the two tones causes the brain to represent the sound as a pulsing. If you were to listen to binaural beats through stereo headphones (which you should) and remove one side of the headphones, you will hear the single tone as it is. You can do the same for the other side and you will hear just the other frequency tone. Both tones together are perceived as a third new tone.
A claim by alternative therapies is that binaural tones at certain frequency ranges will stimulate specific effects in the body such as relaxation, enhance ones ability to focus, induce lucid dreaming, etc. These effects happen in the frequencies of and correspond to brain wave frequencies.
For example, 40hz brain wave frequency (aka gamma waves) is associated with higher mental activity like problem solving. The following video has a binuaral beats audio track at a 40 hz differential for improved concentration. This idea is to listen to this, say through an ipod or iphone with earphones while you are studying or performing tasks that need concentration.
This next one is an example for deep meditation and healing which features an audio track differential in the Theta wavelength between 4-7 hz. For this one you can listen to it while meditating or even sleeping.

Mileage may vary 🙂 Can’t hurt to give it a whirl. Some tones may be unpleasant for some people, but I found most to be quite soothing.
