This blog started out as a way to capture the lives of my family as we go through the process of caring for our parents. Both parents were diagnosed with lung cancer within just a few months of each other. The blog has served several purposes:
- to keep friends and family up to date on how my parents were doing
- to chronicle the events as they happen for future reference
- to help illustrate how cancer effects the lives of the people with it and those that care for them
- and finally, as a way for me to express my feelings and emotions throughout this journey
However, since the time the blog was created, both of my parents have passed away. The blog will continue to exist and receive updates. The nature of the blog will no longer be about the day to day caring of my parents, but rather for me to express myself as I grieve the loss of my parents. It will be an outlet for me to share my emotions, challenges and triumphs as I start this new journey in a life without my parents around.
It will continue to be a place for me to provide information about cancer and it’s effects on human existence. The blog will allow me to share information I come across that may help others who are looking for some help.
This blog will continue to be a source of events, thoughts and feeling that may be used in some other way in the future. It will also be a place for me to capture the ‘story’ of my parents. To ensure they have a legacy should other be interested in knowing them (like their very young great grand child or future members of their family tree.)
I have found over the many months I have been blogging that having a place to deposit this information is therapeutic. It allows me to have experiences, share those experiences and move on to the next experience without dragging the baggage behind me. If I had a bad day, I could write about it and blow off that steam then forget about it. If I had a good day, I could reminisce as I wrote about it and look back on it when needed.
I thank each reader for their interest in what I have to say. Although the blog is really for me, having other recognize the contribution I make or empathizing with my experiences is a bonus. I enjoy reading comments and look forward to more of them. I will always welcome feedback. If there is something you would like me to discuss or if you have constructive criticism about my writing, I am all ears.
