First off, for those of you that may have seen a post I did tonight and then that post disappeared here is what happened.  I emotionally vomited all over the keyboard which resulted in a mess of a post.  I could not decided whether to publish that post or not and after about an hour of debating, I decided to post it.  Later on I did not feel good about my decision so I removed the post.

Here is the thing.  I had a bad day today and blogged about it.  I justified the post with the idea that I was maintaining my goal for this blog.  That is to be honest about the things going on so that I have the day captured for future reference.  The dilemma was in balancing being honest without revealing things that might upset people (mainly my parents).  While I want to capture the raw moments, I also want to be respectful of the people involved.  Ultimately I felt I crossed the line and decided to make that post private.  That way it can only be viewed by me and I will still have it for future reference.

Now to attempt to document the day more rationally….

Dad came home today.  He is feeling much better, but has to be careful not to end up back in the shape he was two days ago.  He is using the oxygen that was delivered the other day and was sent home with a list of about 8 or so prescriptions to fill.  I took him down to get the antibiotic filled so that he would not miss a day.  While he was in the hospital they did a 2 unit blood transfusion and while his blood counts were still a tad low, they were pleased with the result.  He was also given a heavy dose of Lasix (a diuretic) and IV antibiotics to clear up pneumonia he had in his left lung.  He also has two different types of inhalers to help keep his lungs clear, help him breath and hopefully help with the cough.  He still has the cough and I do not know if they were able to attribute the coughing to any specific condition.  A couple of hours before he was released, he had a nurse put an oxygen meter on his finger and they walked around the halls.  His resting saturation was 100% and under exertion it only dropped to 94%.  So the nurse was pleased to see that.

When we were leaving the hospital, there was a workers union picketing the hospital.  There were picketing because the hospital contracted with Alberstons to have a Starbucks and a Sav-On pharmacy in the hospital lobby.  Apparently Albertsons is operating those two retail locations as non-union and the union does not like that.  While I suppose I can understand their reason for picketing (without agreeing or disagreeing), I did not appreciate that they were using several bullhorns and were shouting as loudly as they could.  They showed no respect for the patients who had to listen to it.  They showed no compassion for the patient being discharged who just wanted to get home without the ruckus.  I sorta went ballistic on them with my words.  I don’t normally react to people like that, partly because it’s the reaction they want, but today I just could not contain myself and had to give them a piece of my mind.  I could not believe how incredibly loud they were (it was a covered walkway and the noise echoed).  At one point one of the demonstrators mouthed, “We can’t hear you” in that snotty snide sort of way, and I knew I just needed to walk away.  I was really upset by them.

Got the parents home, made them a nice cooked dinner of chicken, noodles and veggies and mashed potatoes.  Mom is now sleeping and dad is resting comfortably, using the oxygen that was delivered the other day.  They are both looking forward to Larry and Diana’s visit tomorrow and are extremely disappointed Larry doesn’t have enough room in his luggage to sneak them on the cruise 🙂

Well I think that sums up the day.  We shall see what fun stuff tomorrow brings!
